JetBlue considers new US-UK flight routes

The transatlantic Sky could be somewhat crowded as the US airline JetBlue is considering launching new routes from New York and Boston to London.

The 20-year-old company says, the transatlantic market is suffering from poor competition and high tariffs, especially in the premium category.It would be the first trip from JetBlue to Europe-it is currently in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.

It is expected to make a decision on the routes later this year.

JetBlue has the opportunity to convert some a321neo aircraft ordered by European manufacturer Airbus in 2016 into the long-haul version.

A spokesman for JetBlue said: “We plan to announce our decision on the long-haul version of the A321 in 2019.”

He added: “the potential routes to Europe could give us the opportunity to expand our focus cities of Boston and New York, as we consider the best use of our aircraft from a margin perspective in these cities.”

To speculate about new routes, the company recently said that it was on 10. A “chat about JetBlue’s vision and strategy” took place on April 22, 2014.
“Obscene”

Last year, JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes said that the fares some airlines charge for business-class flights between New York and London are “obscene”.

At the aviation Festival in London in September, he said: “when we see this, we know that we can make it much cheaper. We think it is a good opportunity, and when the time is right to take advantage, we can do it very well.”

British Airways and American Airlines, as well as the partnership between Air France-KLM, Delta and Virgin Atlantic have traditionally dominated the transatlantic routes.

But airlines like Norwegian Air Shuttle, Wow and Primera have emerged in recent years to offer cheaper alternatives.

However, Norwegian recently announced that it would increase Norwegian krone 3 billion (£260 million) after reporting a loss for the full year.

The International Airlines Group, which owns BA, had considered an offer for Norwegian and acquired shares in the company.
